the space of time, between erasure and sedimentation

The Blu Affondo series seeks to explore the dimensionality of time; having become fascinated with quantum physics, the artist has tried to explore its meaning through painting.

The dimensionality of time is conceived as a plane and a constant oscillation between brush and canvas; the result is what overlaps and settles. The stratification of colours builds the materiality of the canvas, pushing the viewer to immerse themselves in a dialogue with the work through the discovery of traces of colour and shades of blue.

The relativity of time and entropy are elements that keep the canvas from being monochromatic and flat. Entropy — understood as the concept of disorder present in the state of time — is identified with the background trace that runs across the canvas; the light icons represent a pre-existing energy, a disordered but not random entropy. The flow of the blue sheet of time arranges itself unevenly on the canvas, determining the relativity of chromatic time, where every painting session can be glimpsed.

The works reveal a strong structure in which every session can be seen; one notices the intense working of the canvas, worked more than a hundred times before it is ready — yet, by the very nature of the work, it is never finished, because the sedimentation could continue infinitely.

The colour blue, chosen precisely for its spiritual dimension, flows like time across the canvas, evenly over the whole painting, but clots at the points that hold a more energetic weave; this gives rise to images that are the fruit of sedimentation and erasure.

Sedimentation and erasure are the principal ways in which humanity perceives time.
